Ingredients
  • ½ c. butter
  • 3 oz. unsweetened or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1½ c. turbinado sugar (Sugar in the Raw)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1½ c. all purpose flour
  • ½ t. baking powder
  • ½ t. salt
  • 1 t. expresso powder
  • ½ c. Kahlua plus extra for brushing on the top when they come out of oven
  • ½ c. diced walnuts, or pecans if you prefer
Instructions
  1. Melt butter and chocolate over low heat until melted enough to blend together; remove from heat.
  2. Beat the eggs and sugar together with a large whisk.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
  4. When cooled, whisk the chocolate mixture and the Kahlua into the egg and sugar mixture.
  5. Whisk in the dry ingredients until well blended.
  6. Pour into a prepared 9" x 9" pan.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
  8. Remove brownies when a toothpick inserted oink the middle comes out clean.
  9. Cool slightly on a cooling rack; brush the top with about 2 tablespoons more of Kailua,
  10. Allow to cool completely before slicing. A plastic knife cuts cleanly through warm brownies. Cut into 2.5''x'2.5" squares first. You may split that lengthwise into 2 skinnier brownies or quarter it to make 4 bite-sized pieces. It depends on the event for which it is being used,
